– The AWUM Board of Directors is happy to announce the election of Myat Thanda Tun and Christy Shannon to the Board of Directors of
Asian Women United of Minnesota. 

Myat Thanda Tun and Christy Shannon bring with them a wealth of experience and a shared commitment to advancing AWUM’s mission to end domestic violence in the Asian Pacific Islander community and beyond. Their leadership and expertise will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our impact and serve families and the community.

Myat Thanda Tun, MA, GPHR, is an accomplished Program Director at Fairview Health Services, where a career spanning from June 2005 includes roles such as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Program Manager, Diversity Consultant, and Diversity Specialist. In addition, Myat served as a member of the Governor's Community Council on Inclusion and Equity for the State of Minnesota from August 2021 to December 2023, providing strategic advice to promote equitable practices across the state. Prior to this, Myat held a board member position at the Karen Organization of Minnesota from 2013 to 2019 and managed business development for EIFFAGE in Myanmar from 1995 to 2002.

Myat's educational background includes a Master's degree from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota and a certificate from the Asia Pacific Leadership Program at the East-West Center, alongside attendance at the
University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Christy Shannon is the Executive Director/CEO of CornerHouse Children's Advocacy Center in Minneapolis, which serves survivors of child abuse & their families through forensic interviewing, advocacy, and therapy services in addition to training professionals in the child welfare and criminal justice fields, and community abuse prevention education. Christy came to CornerHouse in February 2024 with demonstrated leadership experience in the victim services field & a passion for serving survivors of abuse. Prior positions were with Safe Nest, Nevada’s largest domestic & sexual violence nonprofit agency, joining in 2011 as a volunteer victim advocate in the court and shelter programs; and in 2015, as the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer, supporting the agency through extensive program, operational, and funding growth.

Christy holds a Master of Public Administration in Nonprofit Management from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and a MA in English from the University of Northern Colorado.
