AWUM announces
Clara Haycraft
as its new
Executive Director
Minneapolis, MN. September 5, 2025 – The Board of Directors of Asian Women United of Minnesota (AWUM) after an extensive and careful search is very pleased to
appoint Clara Haycraft as the new Executive Director of AWUM. Clara will assume the leadership position previously held by Claudia R. Waring, beginning September 8, 2025. Clara brings more than 17 years of public sector experience, guiding teams to achieve results by combining people-centered leadership, clear strategic vision, strong fiscal oversight, and a passion for building community engagement.
“I am sincerely honored to bring my leadership experience and deep commitment to survivor-centered, trauma-informed work to help advance AWUM’s mission – a mission that aligns closely with both my personal identity and professional purpose. As a Burmese American woman and a long-time public servant, I understand the cultural, social, and systemic barriers that many in the Asian community – especially women – face when navigating issues of safety, voice, and belonging. While I don’t have direct experience in the domestic violence field, I’ve dedicated my career to public service – advocating for those in crisis, developing inclusive programs, and leading teams that respond to urgent community needs. I am eager to contribute by supporting and uplifting the career experts at AWUM already doing this critical work. This role represents a natural continuation of my commitment to serving others, advancing equity, and building safe, empowering spaces for healing and justice.” - Clara Haycraft
